News about Chests

February 27, 2026

Hi friends! Alex here again, the game designer for SuperCity.

I’ve been reading your messages about the removal of chests—especially the part about having nowhere to spend your seasonal currency at the end of the season. I understand why that feels bad. Seasonal currency isn’t just numbers on a screen. It’s your plans. It’s the time you spent earning it. It’s that feeling that everything was calculated… and then the familiar end-of-season event suddenly disappeared.

I want to be honest about why this happened, what we’ve already done, and what we will definitely do next.

1) The main issue

Over the past few months, our biggest pain point has been technical problems that caused the game for some players to load into a black/white screen, freeze, or behave unstably.

And yes—I know what that feels like. You log in “just for a minute” to collect income, and instead of your cozy city you get emptiness and frustration. For a game many of you come to for calm and a familiar rhythm, this is especially upsetting.

We focused on this because stability is the most basic way we can take care of you. Without it, any new events and rewards become a lottery: “Maybe it’ll work, maybe it won’t.” If you’ve noticed improvements lately, that’s not a coincidence. It’s the result of very specific work—often invisible from the outside—that we deliberately put first.

2) What chests have to do with it

SuperCity has a long history. And that history has a downside: some older events are built in a way that doesn’t play nicely with the modern technical solutions we use to improve loading and stability.

That’s exactly what happened with chests.

We held out hope until the very end that we could keep them in the game. That’s why we didn’t say a final “That’s it, they’re gone.” As long as there was a chance, we tested it. But now it’s clear: if we want to preserve the stability improvements, we can’t safely keep chests in their previous form.

I’m truly sorry we couldn’t do both. I understand the attachment to a familiar event—chests had their own kind of magic: choosing the type of chest, having a clear goal, and that anticipation of the reward. That’s why our next step is to create a worthy replacement, not just move on and pretend it never existed.

3) Our plans

And now the most important part: we will create a new event where you can spend seasonal currency—so you don’t feel like it’s become useless.

Here’s what’s non-negotiable for me in the new format:

  • A clear, straightforward way to spend seasonal currency. No guessing, no hunting for loopholes—there will be an obvious, convenient solution.
  • A real sense of choice. You’ll be able to spend seasonal currency in different ways—and besides the new event, the familiar spending options will remain in the game as well, such as the end-of-season sale.
  • A calm pace. No “you have 10 minutes” pressure and no unnecessary stress—the event should support your gameplay, not push you around.

As soon as we’re ready to share details, we’ll make a separate post with examples and the full rules.

4) What about keys?

We also remember another big pain point: some of you still have chest keys—sometimes keys from different seasons.

I promise:

  • we will add a way to exchange keys from any season for resources in the new event, so they become useful again;
  • we will also provide additional compensation for the fact that those keys have been sitting unused for so long—without bringing you any joy or value.

I know how sensitive this is. When a resource is collected, saved, and planned around, it should work—not gather dust on a shelf. Our job is to restore that sense of fairness and respect for your time.

5) One last thing: thank you

Thank you for telling us directly when something hurts or feels inconvenient. Your words, comments, and feedback show us what the game and the community feel like—and they help point us toward the path we should take next.
